Sonorous ft. Tobias Hengeveld, Joyce Prescher & Anna Cordell

IFTI Community Hub, 2 Francis Crescent, Ferntree Gully

To end a wonderful year of such humbling events, we bring you an absolutely stunning lineup to top off a great first year of Sonorous Sessions.

  • Melbourne’s Tobias Hengeveld writes melodically vivid songs, riddled with unexpected angular pop-hooks. His distinctively sylvan voice rides personal experience with a wry lyrical candor. Nominated for an Age Music Victoria Award for 2014’s The Daylight Express, Tobias Hengeveld has remained a lesser-known, yet formidable presence in the league of Melbourne songwriters worth their salt. His anticipated third solo release Naughts & Ones is triumphant testament to a starkly original sound that is hard to define, and even harder to forget. A mirror-maze of unabashed, snappy pop tunes, set in a hinterland of darker rock ballads.

  • With every song Joyce Prescher is giving you a little glimpse into her soul. With her poetic storytelling, haunting melodies and a voice that really gets under your skin she has mesmerized audiences in Australia as well as the Netherlands ever since she was a little girl. Her music makes you feel like you know her or want to know her and maybe you are in fact a little like her. On her debut album ‘Home', Joyce Prescher meditates on the hardship of living away from home, identity, love and death. Inspired by the great singer-songwriters of our time, her sound tells of her love of folk music, with hints of alt-country and Americana. Joyce is currently working on her second studio album.

  • Melbourne singer Anna Cordell plays tender yet deceptively complex folk music that belies a childhood spent learning the piano, guitar and musical theory. Her voice is rich and warm yet lyrically her music is filled with angst and conflict, a emotional impact heightened by her penchant for the minor key. Anna Cordell has always been a ‘maker’. From her youngest years spent singing and writing folk songs on her nylon string guitar, to the first stitches of her design work, and all the way into motherhood, Cordell has a natural flair for creation. After taking an almost decade long hiatus from music making - a period in which she became a mother to five children and began working on her now thriving clothing label - Anna is now making her return to music, set to present a new album launch in late November.
